A masked whistle-blower leaks a disturbing video of human experimentation from a secret bio-research lab then disappears. His friends, a local news reporter and a pair of amateur bloggers, decide to find the lab and their friend while recording all the events. Their journey takes them to a remote site in the New Mexico desert where they access a bizarre labyrinth of underground tunnels. When they realize a biological contaminant has afflicted all the workers with a mysterious disease, what started as a rescue mission turns into a fight for survival and escape.
BIOMASS is an 87-minute sci-fi horror found footage movie. Multiple cameras worn by the heroes and extensive support cameras from the environment are combined through a meticulously detailed edit to create one of the more cinematic experiences in the genre. This technique combined with the fast-paced narrative aims for broad appeal to both found footage fanatics as well as standard horror fans.
The film has been extensively processed with a sophisticated horror color-grade. In addition, each hero’s personal camera is given a unique digital fingerprint and look throughout the film. To complete the experience, a variety of VFX shots enhance sets, make-up, and objects in the environment as well as add high concept visual centerpieces that build with the progression of the story.
